Holidaze

I was out with the hordes today, picking up some last minute gifts in the pouring down rain. Rain or no rain, apparently I was not the only one who had to shop today.

Let's date ourselves by describing some memorable gifts we received as children.

My sister and I were delighted with Dawn & Chrissie dolls who had hair you could retract and pull out again for various styles. Of course, when you cut it, that was it.

I made elaborate, housewide orange Hot Wheels race tracks with my brothers.

Nothing was more exciting than the phone my sister and I had installed in our room: blue, push putton, curly cord. Finally! a private phone call!

What do you remember?

AM,

How nice of you to remember me while you were out shopping. I am actually on the market for another bar stool pic ( but as you say I won't be seeing one till 08 ).

Nostalgic toys --depends how far you want to go back in time. tinker-toys, licoln logs, Whizzers, Mr Wooley, Silly putty, Super Elastic Bubble Plastic, Super Stuff, Wham-O toys, Bubble-wands, Screaming Mi Mi s, Twirly copters came to my aging mind --- Guess Edison had already invented the light bulb ( Lite-Brites )

I don't have a clue what the kids are raving about today ??????

My dentist tells me I have to watch what I eat and stay away from sauces that promote tooth decay. He recommended chrome as opposed to porcelin veneers because---- "there is nothing like being chrome for the Hollindaise"

Super Elastic Bubble Plastic! I forgot about that wonderful stuff!

You probably forgot as did most other kids at that time because of the high organic solvent content in the semi-liquid plastic and Inhaling vs blowing the stuff frying your brain cells.

I suprised some Law firm has not done recent TV advertising to cover a toxic torts claim against the mfgrs of that stuff.

Christmas gifts of years past....I remember my very first Cabbage Patch doll...her name was Mariam Melissa, my very first CD and CD player, and of course barbies galore.

The most memorable gift I think I ever received was at the tender age of 16....my parents bought me a puppy that I so very much wanted....a dalmatian that I named Disney. I saw her in the pet store and begged for this little puppy, to which my parents said no! A couple of days later, my dad honked the horn from the driveway and he was carrying her with a huge red bow tied around her collar.

OK. on the obscure front, I had Major Matt Mason toys (astronauts, with accessories). No dalmations with bows, but I did get a Pet Rock one year! And of course the Hot Wheels flying around the house. My most memorable was a record player, AM/FM radio that I got when I was 6 or 7. I used to listen to the far away AM stations at night, music from Chicago (I lived in Florida at the time), fading in and out, seemed amazing to my young mind. Merry Christmas all!
